Project Hope was a huge success. We doubled our numbers from last year and we know God is going to lead us to even more schools next year. There were many, many appreciative recipients of your generous donations. Not only did you give enough to provide for 350 children at Magnolia Parkway Elementary and all of their parents but the overflow from Project Hope went to “Back 2 Basics” ministry supporting foster children and our other MHM project in Coldspring that served close to 100 additional families. Coldspring is where I grew up and it’s one of the poorest counties in Texas. I have a special place in my heart for that community. They are so appreciative of our generosity. Our MHM team could not have done this without God’s provision through each of you.
I want to share with you the following firsthand account from one of our faithful volunteers, Janice:
“The day of the event was totally awesome. We were all exhausted from set up and I really didn’t want to get out of bed, but I knew I had made a promise to be there and help out. God gave me the strength to get up and get ready for the main event, and, I am so glad that He did. When I arrived at the school, the line was very, very long. I got myself settled in, got my instructions, and proceeded to get my first customer. I got their sheet of paper with all their kids’ names and sizes on it and looked at this couple and recognized them from last year. It was fantastic to see them again (unfortunately, they still need our help). But to catch up with them and to hear some good news was wonderful. Their oldest daughter was in college, fully funded, and doing very well. They were actually getting jobs and she was able to pay all their bills last month and had $19 to spare. She was so happy about being able to pay their bills. Anyway, we continued to shop for their remaining 4 children and I loved every minute of it. Maybe one day she will be one of our personal shoppers and be on the other end of this awesome group.
I had another couple that needed a bike for their son so he could participate in the next Boy Scout bike event. He wasn’t allowed on the last event because his bike was too small for him and the Scouts wouldn’t allow him to participate because of safety issues. Well, lo and behold, we had this beautiful army green mountain bike there. Won’t the kids be jealous of him on the next event?”
There are many stories like Janice. I call them “ah ha” moments when the Lord just melts your heart to see a glimpse of what He sees. Just a few for me include the mom who helped this year but was a recipient last year, children jumping up and down with pure joy over their parent’s gifts, and teachers weeping with appreciation. We had a very special volunteer this year who is a mom of 3 young boys. She came to volunteer on Thursday knowing that she had a brain MRI scheduled on Friday. Unfortunately, that MRI revealed a cancerous tumor in her brain and yesterday she underwent brain surgery to remove it. Talk about selfless acts in a selfish world. She could have stayed home and felt sorry for herself but instead she came and focused on helping others. Please pray for Christi’s complete and total healing this Christmas.
The MHM board prays that each and every one of you will be filled to overflowing with the true spirit of Christmas in the next few days. We pray that the Lord embraces you a little tighter and His presence is a little richer as you have enriched the lives of hundreds this Christmas. We are eternally grateful and only on the other side of heaven will we fully know the extent of the ripple effect of each gift given. God bless you all!
