Introduction to Moms Helping Moms

Welcome to Moms Helping Moms. My name is Lori Gasca. I am a wife, a mom, and the founder of this ministry. Just a short time ago, this was nothing more than a slight stirring in my heart by the Holy Spirit. To see where the Lord is leading is beyond my wildest imagination!

As a mom of four active children, there’s not much quiet time in our home. One day as I escaped to the bathroom – one of the few places I can usually find solitude in our busy home - I started thinking about the book “One Month to Live” our pastor and his wife had just written. Pastor Kerry was preaching a sermon series on that concept and I began to hear the Savior’s still small voice speaking to my heart - “This is your time, Lori. It’s time to start making a difference. You are almost 40 years old, how much more of an adult do you have to be to start making a difference?” He went on to ask “If you only had one month tolive, what would you wantto leave your children?” Without hesitation, I answered “a legacy of giving.” If I were to be gone tomorrow, I want my children to know life is about more than them. I want them to make choices in their daily lives that show Jesus to those hurting around them.

So, after a series of events and many more visits with the Lord, God’s plan started to become clearer to me. In the fall of 2008, I was led to two precious families at one of our Woodlands schools in need of assistance with some basic needs. With the help of some of my dear friends, we were able to ease the burden of these families, if only momentarily. I knew in my heart that I would not be content leaving it here with just one family. So, at that time, “Moms Helping Moms” was started.

My husband, Michael, and I put our children to bed at night with everything they need. My heart breaks for the moms who cannot meet the basic needs of their children. The burden they must bear is beyond my comprehension. For such a time is this to be the hands and feet of Jesus to moms in our community who are struggling in this way.

In June 2008, we held our first event at a local elementary school and since that time we have helped hundreds of people in various ways. This year, our ministry is in the process of securing our non-profit status. This just really blows me away. Why does God want to use me? I am just so normal and ordinary! What I’m learning is He wants me just the way I am and He wants you too. He doesn’t want perfection because then He can’t shine! When something great happens in the name of “Moms Helping Moms”, it’s happening in the name of Jesus and He gets to shine mightily! Won’t you join us in sharing God’s grace and goodness to those in need of a helping hand? Check out our upcoming events, sign up to be on our newsletter list, or feel free to make a donation. Every penny we receive goes toward helping those in need.

“Moms Helping Moms” is run completely by volunteers and the generosity of people in our community. Thank you so much for your interest in “Moms Helping Moms”.
